Syslab at 3rd GEO Data Providers Workshop
Syslab took part in the 3rd GEO Data Providers Workshop that was held in Frascati, Italy, on 2-4 May, 2018, hosted by the European Space Agency. It brought together over 200 participants from more than 130 organizations – Earth observation data providers and users, sharing knowledge and best practices in the management and use of Earth observation data and working together to enhance the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). This event provided great opportunity to make some preparations for the ISEPEI project’s upcoming summer workshops.
These three days were packed with 26 workshop sessions and 11 training sessions covering a wide range of topics related to the evolution of the GEOSS Platform and its value to data users and providers, and a 2-day hackathon running in parallel with the workshop. Focus areas of the workshop included: connecting data providers with users; presenting user-centric GEOSS Platform enhancements; building strategies for strengthening user and provider outreach and expanding the user base.
Hackathon participants had 30 hours to create an open-source data discovery or access application based on announced challenges. The results of the hackathon were presented at the end of the workshop, showcasing applications on such topics as Connecting Arctic voices, Protecting the Madagascar Forest, Cloud Detection Game (Increasing the amount of classified data for machine learning) and other.
