 Spatial Analysis and Visualization in Environmental and Social Sciences

Syslab's Spatial Mapping and Analysis Research Group (SMARG) is organizing students’ conference within the “Introduction to Geospatial Analysis” course at the Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy. At the event, participants will present their final projects, which explore environmental and other problems by means of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing. Each presentation will introduce findings and the project’s workflow, from problem formulation, data collection and manipulation, to results visualization and interpretation. Projects cover various topics, from wildlife conservation and forestry to disaster management, urban, and energy studies.  

The event will be introduced by Viktor Lagutov, Head of the Systems Laboratory, and the course instructor.

Projects in the following broad categories will be presented and discussed:

  • Urban analysis (10:10 – 10:50)
  • Wildlife Conservation (11:10 – 12:30)
  • Forestry (13:30 – 14:30)
  • Disaster Management (14:30 – 14:50)
  • Energy (16:10 – 16:50)
