This summer is different in many ways. Our traditional week-long ISEPEI workshops as well as newly introduced short intensive weekend trainings, taking place in June/July in Budapest, had to be postponed to October 2020.

Unfortunately, the core ISEPEI courses (“Geospatial Technologies for Monitoring Water- and Health-related SDGs” and the "Innovations in Disaster and Climate Risk Reduction") and the ISEPEI-SUN Weekend Workshops, originally planned to be held between 22 June and 6 July, 2020, had to be re-scheduled for October, 2020. 

CEU-wide workshop on OpenStreetMap data analysis

On March 11th, Systems Lab conducted an open CEU-wide workshop on geospatial data retreival from open sources and its analysis using ArcGIS Network Analyst. Led by Lab's teaching assistant and PhD student Pavel Kiparisov, students explored OpenStreetMap service, obtained geospatial data for the capital city of Mongolia and conducted the best bus route selection for tourist sightseeing. 

USAID's activities in Disaster Risk Reduction

Another guest lecture was hosted by Systems Laboratory on March 11. This time John Patterson, Regional Advisor for USAID's Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), discussed OFDA's approach to Disaster Risk Reduction: how they develop their strategy, work with partners to identify activities, coordinate cooperation with donors, and how they envision foreign assistance contributing to positive preparedness outcomes.
