On January 10, the CEU hosted a student conference as part of its Introduction to Geospatial Data Visualization (IGDV) and Introduction to Geospatial Analysis (IGA) courses. The event featured two sessions dedicated to the presentations of the final projects developed by students.
The conference provided a platform for environmental science, policy, and management students to showcase their GIS projects using various mapping packages and online tools, including QGIS and Google Earth Pro. The presentations demonstrated the practical skills and knowledge students gained throughout the IGDV course, which aimed to equip them with a basic understanding of spatially referenced data and its applications in research.
A total of 12 presentations were showcased, covering a diverse range of topics related to environmental science, urban planning, occupational analysis, disaster management, land use, agriculture, and hydrology. These presentations encompassed various countries and regions across Africa, Asia, and Europe, highlighting the global relevance of the course and the versatility of GIS in addressing a wide range of environmental and social challenges.
The IGDV course provided students with both theoretical understanding and practical experience in using geospatial data and technologies for mapping and analyzing societal and environmental phenomena. The conference served as a valuable opportunity for students to present their research findings, gain valuable feedback, and showcase the impactful applications of GIS in their respective fields.
