Assessing Vanuatu mangroves

The study uses literature review, geospatial analyses and expert opinion to assess the status of mangroves in Vanuatu. This project is the first to provide a baseline national level data on the rate of change of mangrove ecosystem in Vanuatu. So far, most of the published data on mangroves of Vanuatu yields very little data on mangrove change trends of Vanuatu. Furthermore, the main drivers of change will be identified using literature review and informal interviews with experts.
This research aims to contribute to the natural resource management initiatives of Vanuatu by using satellite technology and geospatial tools to monitor and assess the mangrove ecosystem nationally. It also aims to develop a repository of available GIS data and resources for future access and easy availability for the purposes of management.
